The laser energy or heat emitted by Palomar MaxG is absorbed by dark pigments in the skin such as melanin & hemoglobin which are responsible for darkened spots and redness. Heat damages unwanted pigment and capillaries leaving the surrounding tissue intact. The treatment is recommended for sun-damaged skin and freckles, and is also effective against redness from acne, rosacea or broken capillaries. The Max G photofacial is best suited for fair to medium skin types.

Veins

The Palomar 1064nm laser directs heat energy into blood and vessel walls and is absorbed by the hemoglobin that is present. The heat causes the vessel to narrow and disintegrate so that it is no longer visible. The overlying skin is unaffected. The laser hand-piece provides contact cooling for patient comfort. Palomar 1064nm is suitable for the treatment of spider veins (small clusters of vessels less than 1 mm in diameter) and reticular veins (1 mm to 3 mm in diameter).

Hair Reduction

During the laser hair reduction procedure, an intense pulse light enters the skin to reach individual follicles. The heat created stops the growth of follicle cells, which inhibits future hair development. Hair that is treated will continue to appear for 7 to 30 days after treatment. This is not new hair growth, but treated hair being ejected from the skin. Intense pulse light targets the dark pigment (melanin) in hair follicles. White or grey hair is not affected by intense pulse light as those hairs contain very little pigment.
